Project Name
Drawings by Rembrandt and His Pupils Interactive
Project Description
In conjunction with a J. Paul Getty Museum exhibition "Drawings by Rembrandt and His Pupils: Telling the Difference," consisting of careful pairings that investigate the comparative styles of Rembrandt and his pupils, an interactive was developed to explore the works of Rembrandt and 10 select pupils in a side-by-side comparison by highlighting similarities and differences in technique and style in their renderings of the same scene or subject matter. Aiming to engage viewers in active looking and perception, the interactive guides viewers to distinguish the stylistic nuances presented in the drawings. The interactive presents multiple pairs of drawing. Each drawing is represented by a multi-resolution image, contains one point of interest, and can be independently explored by the user with pan and zoom functionality. Both an in-gallery and online presentation of the multimedia application were developed. An external XML file controls the interactive (basic options, content, and external media), and all content is externalized to facilitate integration and customization.
